i was just being ethical. back in June this year i was sent to a job site at Quilcene Elementary. the company i was working for was lining the potable water pipes there because of high lead content. While i was there i was sent under the school in the crawl space 4 times for 20+ minutes to work, it was dry soil and you had to low crawl to get about 120 feet to separate some pipes and attach hoses fro the process, after the 4 th time down i noticed a small sign in the dark space marked asbestos. I realized all the dust i had been breathing was full of asbestos, there were broken fragments all over mixed in with the dirt. someone had improperly remove a large amount of asbestos and contaminated the entire underside of the school. this area vents around the entire and had to have released alot to the play areas. i immediately told the site supervisor Matt and who has been working in the profession over 15 years and i also told regional manager Jim. They refused to stop sending workers down with absolutely no protection. the school administrators were informed that day , They all ignored this contamination and basically cared less about anything but doing the pipe lining, . i called Gary Smith at the pierce county office of L&I industrial Hygiene, there like OCEA for our state. He would not tell me how to decontaminate my self. He did come to the site the next day and took samples that proved what i had said. the company ha since then retaliated against me in many ways, they were especially mad that they would have to pay $1500 for a permit they were circumventing paying for at that time.
I believe that children for years at that school have been exposed to heavy amounts of Lead and asbestos. I just want the parents in that area to be informed of what the state L&I, school and the company Nu Flow has done to cover this up. the school is a state entity.
Do you think that companys and government should cover up hazardous exposures a kids schools?
