I need to design an ecofriendly town for a project and i'm not sure how i should do the layout. I know the obvious, like i shouldnt have asbestos in the houses, use solar panels, recycle, but I dont know what to do as a layout (e.g., where the houses should go in relation to a water treatment facility in relation to the school, etc). i know that something like a powerplant shouldnt be right next to the houses, but if i have all that kind of stuff in a collective area away from the houses, would them all being together cause harm? really, my questions just whats the most efficient layout for an eco friendly town?
1. Consider gravity in everything you design. use gravity-based collection of wastewater and stormwater from households to the treatment plant. Pump the potable water to the storage tank located at the highest point in the area. this will minimize/eliminate pumping and booster stations.
2. Consider renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and bio-gas. use bio/organic waste from the households to input bio-gas plant. use this energy for as many things as you can… street lighting, heating/cooling of buildings, cooking gas, and other applicatons.
3. Dont crowd houses/buildings in one area… keep room for natural air and light. make sure trees dont block light (sunlight from east-west directions).
4. Make sure you have rain-water harvesting strategies chalked out before you start looking out for drinking water sources.
I've got many such ideas for eco-friendly designs… if you would like to discuss, contact me on neo11@ymail.com.
Thanks.
a layout which contins space maybe a park or something… a lake or something which is surrouned by trees and maybe like trees up the road. also solar panels on the houses and alot of green basically… like the perfect town
Proper use of space, utilities (like windmill farms) and spreading out facilities like plants and such.
