Is my family in danger of asbestos exposure?

We live in a semi-detached that was built in 1961. my neighbor (that shares a wall) just renovated his basement. I know for a fact that he had asbestos tile in his basement. he went with the cheapest contractor and laughed at the fact that the other contractors wanted to charge more to remove the stuff. Is there a chance that asbestos dust has made it into my home? If so, what can I do to be sure? would my neighbor have to pay for the testing? I have 3 young kids, so I don't want to take any chances.

Asbestos has to be friable to allow fibers in the air to be a problem. that means when they were prying up the tiles there could have been fibers present in the air. Contractors have to be trained to handle asbestos. part of the training includes wetting down any asbestos to reduce the amount of fibers released. They would have had to bag up all the tile to move it out of the basement. those people affected with mesothelioma worked in clouds of asbestos dust. Vacuum the floors with a hepa vac and dust your wood work with a wet product like pledge, and wash the windows.
