Treatment of mesothelioma depends on the location of the cancer, the stage, patient's age and general health.
Standard treatments are :
Surgery – removal of affected lining or body parts.
Radiation therapy/radiotherapy – involves the use of high energy rays to kill cancer cells or shrink tumors.
Chemotherapy – the use of anti cancer drugs to kill cells throughout the body, usually by injection into the vein.
And or the combination of any of the above treatments.
To relieve symptoms and control pain, needle or tube may be used to drain built up fluid in the chest or abdomen.
New treatment is being under study and shall be under going clinical trials soon.
It is also believed that acupuncture may help to control and relieve pain, could be included as part of the treatment.
